Under the aegis of the Apostolic Carmel Education Society way back in 1944 Carmel High School, Patna was established. The school will forever remain indebted to the pioneering efforts of Mother Theodosia and Mother Josephine. Carmel Patna is proud to have produced all through these years women of substance who can face the challenges of life with unflinching faith in their values. For nearly three decades, the school had its classes on the ground floor of Patna Women’s College. Carmel Patna is situated on the impressive Bailey Road of Patna, right opposite to the High Court. As the school kept growing the need for expansion became a reality. Primary Section was shifted to a separate building in the same campus in the year 1970, by 1983 the present High School building had also come into existence. As a whole, Carmel Patna has now to its credit three huge double - storeyed buildings with two huge Auditoriums with a seating capacity of almost one thousand. The Hall has fully operational and modern Sound & Light systems and with Air- conditioners and CCTV Cameras. In 1972, the High School was given official Recognition by the Bihar Government. The school is a Government Recognized Minority school since 1972 and has obtained Minority Rights Declaration. Since 1998, the school has also been given Recognition by the I.C.S.E. Board and is permanently affiliated to the Council For The Indian School Certificate Examination Board since May 22nd 2003. In July 2003, the classes at the plus two level were started in the Science and Commerce Streams and in June 2008, the Arts stream was introduced.

Students are admitted at the L.KG. level only. Some admissions are taken at Plus Two level in each of the three streams - Science, Commerce, Arts.

Due to growing numbers and demand for admissions, in 2016 the school felt the need to put up a separate block for the Primary Section with better facilities.

The School assembles for the morning prayer every day. Each class takes turns for a week in conducting the assembly. The students are expected to give the news headlines, a good thought for the day and also present a short value based programme put up in a creative manner. At least once a week, instead of the regular assembly, group meditation is conducted for all the students for about 15 minutes.

The school has a well-equipped library with more than seven thousand books. There is a full time qualified librarian to attend to the needs of the teachers and students. The library is equipped with Air- conditioners and CCTV Cameras. The school has three full equipped Computer Labs. with a total of 120 computers. The entire building is under Wi- Fi internet connectivity. The Lab is capable of handling jobs related to Scanning, Colour Printing, Faxing, Photo copying etc. The School has its own multi work copier machine both colour and black & white. The school has six very well maintained laboratories for Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Maths, Geography and English Language.

At a time 60 students can work together. Every class has digital smart board to cope with the modern method of teaching. There are Laptops, LCD Projectors and the Multimedia equipments (T.Vs., Tape recorders, CD players) that the school possesses are extensively used for seminars, PowerPoint presentations, Quizzes, various stage & classroom activities. CCTV, Speakers in classroom-----helps the Principal to remain in touch with the students. The school has separate a Infirmary and a Counsellor’s Room. Easy communication system is established between all the three buildings by connecting them with Intercoms.

The school has a sprawling play-ground with a lush green covering. Other than Sports activities this field is often used for outdoor programmes for parents and others guests. For the all round development of the students the school has a Basket-Ball court, a Badminton court, a Throw-Ball court, Kho Kho court, Rugby field and Table – Tennis tables. The school has acquired five fitness equipments to inculcate in the students the culture of good health and fitness. Other than these activities the students have to opt for one of the following co-curricular activities :-

• Classical Dance ( Kathak & Bharatnatyam)
• Music (Instrumental)

We have different clubs, like Art and Culture Club, Sports Club, English Literature Club, Social Apostolate Club, Mathematics Club, Hindi Club, Social Service Club, Art & Craft Club, Eco Task Club, Computer Club and Science Club. The school also regularly puts up Projects on various issues and holds Art & Craft Exhibitions to display the artistic skills of the students.

Carmel Treasure Retreat is held annually for students of class 9th & 11th to help them to face the challenges of life armed with Carmel values they have been taught. From time to time, resource persons are invited to hold orientation programmes on various topics for our students. Orientation programmes are conducted for L.K.G parents and class XI students at the beginning of the session.

The school has an Alumni Association with its motto “For Carmel - Always”, which has lined up many programmes for the benefit of the school. The Alumni Association has agreed to sponsor the education of two of our needy and deserving students till class X. Literacy classes have been running in the school for the last 15 years. Tailoring classes are held for the young girls and women from poor families.

In the value education classes, inter religious harmony is stressed upon and suitable prayers are conducted. It is a practice of the school that as a part of a prayer service, readings from the Holy Books of all major religions are held.

At least thrice a year the parents are invited to meet the class teachers and share the problems regarding their wards. Sometimes the Principal and other sisters & teachers pay personal visits to the students to know better what their problems are. Since 2010 the school has started a half yearly Newsletter “Voice of Carmel”.

Over the years, Carmel Patna has grown from strength to strength. Our school has always got 100% results in the board exams. On several occasions, our students have secured ranks in various Inter-school & Intra-School Competitions. In the I.C.S.E/I.S.C. Board exams, our students have secured good marks, as for instance, many students secured more than 90% marks and also secured ranks in Top-50 in the All India Rankings.

Carmel Patna is one of the pioneers in High School education for girls in the city. By the blessings of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and the Foundress Mother Veronica, the school has grown from strength to strength and has achieved great heights of success. All its ex-students cherish fond memories of their Alma Mater. The time has come for us to go deeper introspectively to see what we have missed doing and then look ahead and see what needs to be done for our students to prepare them for a challenging life.
